She reflected on the joy he brought to everyone around him and the deep love he had for his family and community.

Bell died on June 12 in Hawaii. Local authorities confirmed an investigation is underway, though no foul play is suspected.

A few weeks before his passing, Bell invited his family to a private screening of Lilo & Stitch in Kapolei. It was a proud and emotional moment for him, surrounded by loved ones and fans, many dressed in themed outfits, celebrating his role in the film. That night would turn out to be one of his last public appearances—a memory his family says they’ll cherish forever.

In Lilo & Stitch, Bell played a warm-hearted local character affectionately remembered as the “Shave Ice Guy,” a small but memorable role that captured the spirit of Hawaii and earned smiles from audiences. The film marked his big-screen debut and followed earlier appearances in shows like Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I.

Beyond acting, Bell also lent his voice to various projects, including announcements at Kona International Airport. Colleagues have described him as uplifting, genuine, and deeply committed to sharing his culture with the world.

Following his death, the cast and crew of Lilo & Stitch offered heartfelt tributes, remembering him as a beloved part of the production and someone who brought warmth and joy to everyone on set.

David Hekili Kenui Bell will be remembered not just for his role on screen, but for the aloha spirit he carried in his everyday life. His passing is a loss felt far beyond the islands—and his light, his laughter, and his love for Hawaii will not be forgotten.
