“Karate Kid: Legends” is a masterful continuation of the beloved Karate Kid saga. Seamlessly tying together the original films, the 2010 reboot, and the hit series “Cobra Kai.” This film is a nostalgic yet fresh take on the classic story, bringing together characters and themes from all iterations of the franchise.

Blending the Legacy

One of the standout aspects of “Karate Kid: Legends”, it honors the legacy of the original Karate Kid films. Fans of the 1984 classic will appreciate the numerous callbacks to the moments and characters that made the original so special. The film’s writer, Rob Lieber (Peter Rabbit), does an excellent job of weaving in the teachings of Mr. Miyagi, reminding us of the timeless wisdom and values he imparted to Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio).

The 2010 reboot of “The Karate Kid” is given its due respect in “Karate Kid Legends.”. Jackie Chan returns as Mr. Han, whom moviegoers were introduced to in the movie. The film acknowledges the unique elements introduced in the reboot, the setting in China, and Kung Fu rather than Karate. This blend of martial arts styles adds a rich layer of diversity. Showcasing the beauty and discipline of both Karate and Kung Fu.

Karate Kid: Legends does a decent job of tying Mr. Han into the history of the Myagi family and Myagi Do Karate. Adding even more depth to the history of the franchise.

Sony Pictures

A Fresh Take on the Old Story

As the story begins to unfold, viewers of the original Karate Kid might get a feeling of déjà vu as we meet Li Fong (Ben Wong). A student of Mr. Han, Li is relocating from Hong Kong to New York City. His mother is taking a job there. Once in New York, Li meets Mia Lipani (Sadie Stanly). Mia works at the pizza place her father owns. He also meets Conor (Aramis Knight). Connor is Mia’s jealous ex-boyfriend, who happens to also be the current “5 Burroughs Karate Champion” and a jerk. Luckily for the moviegoer, this is where the story diverges and lets the viewer know that it’s not a retelling of the original Karate Kid.

Mia’s father, Victor (Joshua Jackson), a retired boxer, owes money to some “very bad people”, and when they come to “collect”, Li steps in. This is the first time we see Li in action, and you immediately see hints of the style that Jackie Chan is known for, such as using surroundings and lots of movement, and a bit of “that didn’t go as planned” fun.

Victor decides he must fight one more time so he can earn enough money to pay his debt. Li reluctantly agrees to help train Victor while facing demons from his past. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Karate Kid movie without a tournament action, and this entry into the franchise does not disappoint.

A Perfect Blend

One of the most exciting aspects of “Karate Kid: Legends” is the seamless blending of fighting styles. The film features a variety of martial arts techniques, each with its own unique flair. From the traditional Karate moves that fans know and love, to the fluid and graceful Kung Fu techniques, the fight scenes are a visual feast. The choreography is top-notch. Director Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not OK With This) does a great job showcasing the fast-paced action.

Final Word

In conclusion, “Karate Kid Legends” is a triumphant addition to the Karate Kid franchise. It successfully ties together the original films, the 2010 reboot, and “Cobra Kai,” creating a cohesive and engaging story that isn’t just a rehash of the original story, but honors the past while looking to the future. The film’s diverse fighting styles and well-executed action scenes make it a must-watch for martial arts enthusiasts and fans of the series alike.

New York, NY – The stars aligned last night at AMC Lincoln Square for the world premiere of Apple Original Films’ new thriller, “Echo Valley.” The highly anticipated film, which boasts a star-studded cast led by Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney, and Domhnall Gleeson, is set to begin streaming globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The film’s leads, Moore and Sweeney, graced the red carpet alongside co-star Domhnall Gleeson and director Michael Pearce. “Echo Valley” is poised to be a gripping addition to Apple TV+’s growing slate of original content, promising a tense story of maternal protection and dark secrets.

“Echo Valley” centers on Kate, a mother portrayed by Oscar winner Julianne Moore, who is navigating a fraught relationship with her daughter, Claire, played by multi-Emmy nominee Sydney Sweeney. The thriller kicks into high gear when a frantic Claire appears at her mother’s remote home, covered in blood that is not her own. The ensuing story follows Kate’s desperate attempt to uncover the truth, forcing her to confront how far she is willing to go to protect her child. This tale of sacrifice and survival is penned by Emmy-nominated writer Brad Ingelsby, known for his work on “Mare of Easttown,” and directed by BAFTA winner Michael Pearce, who previously directed “Beast.” The film’s powerhouse production team includes acclaimed director Ridley Scott.

The cast brings a wealth of celebrated talent to the screen. Julianne Moore is one of the most acclaimed actresses of her generation, earning an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “Still Alice.” Her extensive and versatile filmography includes standout performances in “Far from Heaven,” “The Hours,” “Boogie Nights,” and “The Big Lebowski.”

Co-star Sydney Sweeney has quickly become a prominent face in Hollywood, capturing audience and critical attention alike. She earned two Emmy nominations in the same year for her roles in the hit HBO series “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus.” Sweeney has also gained popularity through her roles in “Anyone But You” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has built a diverse career with roles in major franchises and independent films. He is widely recognized for playing General Hux in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy and Bill Weasley in the “Harry Potter” films. His other notable credits include “Ex Machina,” “The Revenant,” and “About Time.”

The supporting cast includes Fiona Shaw (“Killing Eve”), Edmund Donovan (“High Fidelity”), Albert Jones (“The Good Lord Bird”), and Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks”).

With a compelling plot and a cast of seasoned and rising stars, “Echo Valley” is shaping up to be a must-watch thriller this summer. The film will be available exclusively on Apple TV+ starting June 13, 2025.

Apple TV+ has steadily carved out a reputation for delivering high-quality, critically acclaimed programming since its launch. While the platform may not boast the sheer volume of content as some competitors, it consistently delivers prestige dramas, insightful comedies, and compelling non-fiction that consistently earn top marks from critics and audiences alike.

For those looking to dive into the best of what Apple TV+ has to offer, here are five highly-rated shows that exemplify the streamer’s commitment to compelling storytelling:

1. Slow Horses

Image: AppleTV+ / Slow Horses

Garnering consistent praise for its sharp writing, dark humor, and stellar performances, “Slow Horses” stands out as a top-tier spy thriller. Based on Mick Herron’s acclaimed novels, the series follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who have been exiled to “Slough House,” a dumping ground for MI5’s disgraced operatives. Led by the brilliant and perpetually grumpy Jackson Lamb (a career-best Gary Oldman), these agents often stumble upon high-stakes conspiracies despite their mundane assignments. “Slow Horses” masterfully blends espionage thrills with comedic timing and a surprisingly poignant exploration of failure and redemption, making it a truly unique and binge-worthy watch.

2. Pachinko

Image: AppleTV+ / PACHINKO

A sweeping, multi-generational saga, “Pachinko” is a breathtaking adaptation of Min Jin Lee’s beloved novel. The series traces the hopes and dreams of a Korean immigrant family across four generations, from their humble beginnings in early 20th-century Korea under Japanese occupation to their struggles and triumphs in Japan and beyond. “Pachinko” is a visually stunning, emotionally resonant, and culturally rich masterpiece that offers a powerful look at identity, resilience, and the enduring strength of family bonds. Its intricate narrative and superb performances have earned it widespread critical acclaim.

3. Severance

Image: AppleTV+ / Severance

A chilling and thought-provoking psychological thriller, “Severance” quickly captivated audiences with its unique premise and eerie atmosphere. The series explores the concept of “severance,” a surgical procedure that divides an employee’s non-work memories from their work memories. When a team of office workers at the mysterious Lumon Industries begins to question their bifurcated existence, they uncover a dark conspiracy that blurs the lines between their “innies” (work selves) and “outies” (personal selves). With its meticulous world-building, stellar cast led by Adam Scott, and a constant sense of unsettling mystery, “Severance” is a truly original and compelling series that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

4. Black Bird

Image: AppleTV+ / Black Bird

Inspired by actual events, “Black Bird” is a gripping true-crime drama that plunges viewers into the dark world of a convicted drug dealer tasked with eliciting a confession from a suspected serial killer. Jimmy Keene (Taron Egerton) is offered freedom in exchange for extracting information from Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser), a chilling performance that anchors the series. The tension between the two leads is palpable, and the show’s exploration of manipulation, truth, and the darkest corners of the human psyche is both unsettling and utterly compelling. “Black Bird” is a masterclass in psychological suspense, boasting exceptional acting and a meticulously crafted narrative.

5. Mythic Quest

Image: AppleTV+ / Mythic Quest

For those who enjoy a smart, witty, and surprisingly heartfelt comedy, “Mythic Quest” is an absolute gem. From the minds behind “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” this series follows the eccentric team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all time as they navigate the absurdities of the gaming industry. Led by the often-delusional creative director Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney), the show brilliantly satirizes office politics, creative differences, and the challenges of maintaining a popular cultural phenomenon. “Mythic Quest” is consistently funny, with genuinely endearing characters and moments of unexpected emotional depth, making it a standout in the comedy landscape.

These five shows represent just a fraction of Apple TV+’s growing library of quality content. With a commitment to original storytelling and a penchant for attracting top-tier talent, Apple TV+ continues to prove itself a serious contender in the competitive streaming wars.

Step into the madcap world of Continental Studios with Apple TV+'s "The Studio," Seth Rogen's sharp and hilarious dive into the unrelenting chaos of Hollywood. As newly appointed studio head Matt Remick, Rogen perfectly embodies the frantic tightrope walk between artistic integrity and corporate demands. From greenlighting a "Kool-Aid Man" movie to navigating bizarre on-set disasters, "The Studio" uses its distinctive long takes and star-studded cameos to expose the absurd pressures and constant anxiety that define the fast-paced movie industry, proving that even in the dream factory, making movies can be a laugh-out-loud nightmare.

Apple TV+’s latest hit, “The Studio,” co-created by and starring Seth Rogen, throws viewers headfirst into the frenetic, often absurd, and undeniably stressful world of a major Hollywood film studio. Far from a glamorous portrayal, the series, which premiered on March 26, 2025, and has already been renewed for a second season, offers a biting, satirical, and surprisingly accurate look at the constant chaos, impossible demands, and ever-present anxiety that define the fast-paced movie industry.

At the heart of the show is Matt Remick (Seth Rogen), the newly appointed head of the floundering Continental Studios. A self-proclaimed cinephile, Matt is caught in a perpetual tug-of-war between his genuine passion for producing quality, artistically-driven films and the ruthless corporate demands for commercially viable, often IP-driven, blockbusters. From the moment he’s reluctantly tasked with greenlighting a “Kool-Aid Man” movie (a hilarious nod to the industry’s obsession with established brands), it’s clear Matt’s journey will be anything but smooth.

“The Studio” excels in showcasing the sheer disarray that can permeate every level of movie production. Episodes often hinge on a single, escalating crisis: a missing film reel, a disastrous set visit where Matt inadvertently ruins takes, or a petty war between executives that threatens to derail an entire project. The show’s distinctive use of long takes, often resembling a single continuous shot, heightens this sense of immediacy and pressure. The camera relentlessly follows characters as they scramble through offices, burst onto sets, and navigate treacherous conversations, making the audience feel intimately involved in the unfolding pandemonium. This stylistic choice, particularly lauded in the second episode “The Oner,” is not just a gimmick; it mirrors the relentless, non-stop nature of decision-making and problem-solving in a studio environment.

Beyond the frantic pacing, “The Studio” dissects the human element of this high-stakes game. Rogen’s Matt is a neurotic, insecure, yet surprisingly empathetic figure desperately seeking approval from the creative talent he admires, even as he’s forced to make compromises that contradict his own artistic sensibilities. His relationship with his unpredictable colleague Sal (Ike Barinholtz) and ambitious assistant Quinn (Chase Sui Wonders), along with the formidable presence of characters like the shrewd head of marketing Maya (Kathryn Hahn) and Matt’s eccentric mentor Patty (Catherine O’Hara), paints a vivid picture of the complex power dynamics and clashing personalities that define studio politics.

The series is also rife with star-studded cameos, featuring everyone from Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard playing exaggerated versions of themselves, often finding themselves at the mercy of the studio’s often illogical directives. These appearances aren’t just fan service; they underscore the show’s critique of an industry where creative vision often takes a backseat to corporate bottom lines and executive whims. The tension between art and commerce is a central theme, with “The Studio” suggesting that even those with the best intentions can find themselves complicit in a system that often prioritizes profit over genuine storytelling.

While “The Studio” is undeniably a comedy, its humor is rooted in a keen observation of reality. Co-creators Rogen and Evan Goldberg, drawing on their extensive experience in Hollywood, inject a cathartic sense of truth into the absurdity. As Rogen himself has stated, the show reflects the “frustrating and aggravating” choices made by those who, despite their love for film, are constantly forced to compromise. Industry insiders have reportedly found the show both “great” and “very traumatic to watch,” a testament to its sharp, often uncomfortable accuracy.

In an era where the entertainment landscape is constantly shifting, with streaming services, IP reliance, and an ever-present demand for content, “The Studio” feels incredibly timely. It’s a hilarious and unvarnished exposé of the machinery behind the magic, revealing that even in the dream factory, the process of making movies can be a nightmare—albeit a laugh-out-loud one. “The Studio” is a must-watch for anyone who loves movies, or who simply wants a wildly entertaining glimpse into the chaotic heart of a truly unique industry.

Who could’ve predicted that this fish-out-of-water tale of an American football coach tackling British soccer would become a global phenomenon? Certainly not me, though I quickly fell under its spell. The show arrived during the thick of the pandemic, a time when hope felt scarce, and yet here was Ted, sipping tea and handing out biscuits, reminding us that even in the darkest moments, there’s room for laughter and connection. Over three seasons, it racked up 13 Emmys, including back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series wins, and built a fanbase that spans continents. I’ve rewatched episodes more times than I’d care to admit, each viewing a reminder of why this show matters.

Was that it? The finale tied up some threads—Roy Kent stepping up as AFC Richmond’s manager, Rebecca finding a spark of romance—but it left enough open doors to keep me wondering. The lack of an immediate renewal announcement didn’t help, though the Hollywood strikes that year likely played a role in the delay. I clung to hope, because losing Ted Lasso felt like losing a friend who always knew how to lift my spirits. Thankfully, Apple TV+ has heard our collective plea—or, as Ted might say, our belief—and Season 4 is now official.

Ted isn’t perfect; he’s got his struggles, his doubts, his moments of heartbreak. But he chooses to see the good, to believe in people even when they don’t believe in themselves. In a world that’s often quick to judge, to divide, to despair, Ted’s optimism isn’t naive—it’s defiant. I think about scenes like his dart game with Rupert, where he turns a taunt into a lesson about underestimation, or his quiet chats with Rebecca, offering her biscuits and a listening ear. Those moments stick with me, not just because they’re heartwarming, but because they challenge me to be better, to look past the negatives and find the light.

He’s not a superhero, not a genius, not even a soccer expert. He’s just a guy who believes—in his team, in second chances, in the power of a kind word. I’ve had days where the world feels overwhelming, where the negatives pile up like a losing streak. But then I think of Ted, standing in the AFC Richmond locker room, rallying his players with that goofy grin, and I feel a little lighter. Season 4’s promise of him coaching a women’s team only deepens that admiration—here’s a man who’ll bring that same spirit to a new challenge, proving once again that his brand of heroism isn’t bound by gender or geography.

It’s fitting, really—life’s rarely all one or the other. Ted Lasso gets that, and that’s why I’ve been cheering for its return. This renewal isn’t just about more episodes; it’s about reclaiming a space for joy, for belief, for the kind of storytelling that lifts us up when we need it most. So here’s to Season 4, to Ted and his biscuits, to AFC Richmond’s next chapter. I’ll be waiting, ready to believe all over again.

Apple TV+’s hit dystopian series, Silo, has captivated audiences with its intricate mysteries and gripping suspense. Based on Hugh Howey’s popular Wool series of novels, the show plunges viewers into a subterranean world where the last vestiges of humanity live in a giant underground structure, shielded from a seemingly toxic and uninhabitable outside world. But beneath the surface of this seemingly ordered society lie dark secrets and a desperate struggle for truth.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLJDR-vFUdY

The series centers on Juliette Nichols (played by the brilliant Rebecca Ferguson), an engineer from the lowest levels of the Silo, who finds herself thrust into a reluctant leadership role as she uncovers a conspiracy that challenges everything the residents believe about their existence. The “Silo,” a sprawling structure of 144 levels, is home to 10,000 people who have lived there for centuries, bound by a strict set of rules known as “The Pact.” The show masterfully builds a sense of claustrophobia and paranoia, as characters navigate a society where questioning the established order can lead to a fatal “cleaning” outside.

As Juliette delves deeper, she unearths shocking revelations about the Silo’s origins, the true nature of the outside world, and the powerful figures who maintain control through deception. The series is a slow-burn thriller that excels in its world-building, creating a compelling and visually striking environment that feels both oppressive and eerily familiar. The performances are strong across the board, with Ferguson leading an impressive ensemble cast that includes the likes of Common, Tim Robbins, and Harriet Walter.

Adding to the show’s rich tapestry of characters is Kosha Engler, who portrays the character of Jean in Silo Season 2. For those who have followed our previous coverage, you may recall that we have had the pleasure of interviewing Kosha Engler in the past. Her talent and versatility as an actress and voice artist are well-established, with a career spanning stage, screen, and numerous video game credits. Her presence in Silo further highlights the depth of talent within the series’ cast.

Silo is more than just a science fiction narrative; it’s a profound exploration of human nature, power, and the pursuit of knowledge in the face of overwhelming control. As Juliette peels back the layers of deception, viewers are left to ponder the true cost of safety and the lengths to which humanity will go to preserve its secrets. With its compelling storyline and stellar performances, Silo continues to be a must-watch for fans of thought-provoking dystopian drama, and we look forward to seeing how Kosha Engler’s role as Jean unfolds in the unfolding mysteries of the Silo.
