Playstation locks down Spider-Man in Avengers

Playstation gets an exclusive Spider-Man character coming in early 2021 at no additional cost to owners of Crystal Dynamics The Avengers game on Playstation. In a press release from Playstation’s blog it mentions how you will get to play as Spider-Man in their world a long with The Avengers team which includes Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Black Widow. The release goes on to specify that fans can expect to see Ditko and Romita’s influence on their take of the hero.

I am a big Spider-Man fan and in some sense I am disappointed. I feel that locking exclusivity behind consoles is not necessary but I understand why Playstation did this. It will guarantee sales on their platform. It will force some fans to make the choice to buy it there based on the fact they will get to experience Spider-Man. I had planned on picking this up on Xbox and now I have a dilemma.

Spider-Man is nostalgic for me. As a child I would sit and read the life of Peter Parker while bored out of my mind at my father’s pizza places. I would escape to a world where Spider-Man would swing from page to page while taking down super villains and balancing his love life with Mary Jane. I’ve poured hours into the comics. I currently have over 14 long boxes of comic books dating as far back as the late 50’s / early 60’s and have owned every Spider-Man video game at least once on every platform. In the end its my love for Marvel that would justify where I purchase it.
